There's a reason I can never get into politics, and first and foremost I think is that it absolutely disgusts me. I mean, I think most politicians are people who want power and whose goal is to maintain that power once they have it and in the process they make decisions that affect our lives. And even if they actually care about making a change and trying to make the country better, a lot of them seem willing to sacrifice that to be politically popular.
But please, please, can we stop electing the dumb and crazy guy because we're dumb and crazy as well and he makes us feel better by being president? Ok, you have self-image problems with your intelligence, fine, go see a shrink, but don't take it out on the rest of us who would rather see the most competent person do the job then the one that "I can relate to". When you go and see your accountant, do you want to go to the one who has a million degrees in accounting or do the one who hands you a beer and says "I don't know anything about taxes, but I went moose hunting the other day"? When you pick your doctor, do you pick the one who went Johns Hopkins and who can name every bone in your body or the one who smiles prettily and can't pronounce aorta?
The point is, you wouldn't pick people in charge of important aspects of your life based on how much you relate to them, so stop treating voting for president like the search for your next BFF. Because guess what, their job isn't to be your friend; their job is to govern the country.
And the thing is, you can't even move to another country and hope it gets better because apparently Japan picked their crazy and dumb Prime Minister because he has nice hair.
(This rant is basically the result of me watching the debate last Friday and hearing how McCain seemed to have won because he sounded more forceful and said "Obama doesn't know" more even though he said we should deal with the bail-out crisis by freezing all government spending except for the military, compensation to veterans and other vital core services. Yeah, vital spending probably like making sure the President gets paid and not say, roads or medicare or welfare or anything like that. Geez.)
