Guys, I don't care how gimmicky and overpriced Wii Fit is, I am totally digging it. Especially considering we spent, no joke, something like three plus hours driving all around Chicago trying to find someplace that wasn't sold out. It came out two days ago! It's sold out everywhere online! Are there really this many people who know about it/willing to shell out 90 bucks for it? I blame Ellen. (She gave one along with a Wii console to everyone in her audience.)
Firstly, their BMI thing is really not at all a good test of fitness. The ideal weight for a guy based on their BMI for someone my boyfriend's is like scrawnily low whereas for someone my height and body structure, I would really say it's too high. Especially since the first time I stepped on, due to some carpeting issues, it registered me as underweight and ok, I have been that weight most of my life and would like to get back to there and I was not at all underweight thank you very much. So yeah BMI = rubbish.
(Also, even when it registered me as underweight, it gave me a mini-lesson on why being overweight is bad but then said nothing about what happens if I'm starving myself to a puny skeleton. I mean fair's fair, there's probably just as many health risks from being underweight as there is from being overweight.)
Secondly, if you want to talk about fitness, I think it would be really helpful if they kept track of how many calories you're burning off with their exercises. This is an incredibly easy feature to add and would be more much helpful than their like point ranking system. Also, they could have had a food diary type thing and if you really want to go woah out there, maybe even give you advice on what you should more/less of. I mean just very general things that aren't at all hard to program but would make it a more much more helpful tool.
In terms of actually exercising, they really should have a routine mode or something that combines different types of exercises to give you the best workout. Like say something that lets you set up a half hour work each day that that all flow into each other. Also, it would be great if they had just like a free running feature where you can jog at your own pace and for as long as you want instead of following some mii in front of you. I mean, I just think they made it more of a fun game type thing that involves exercises, and I would have really like to see it being more about fitness type tool.
With that said though, I personally hate working out in front of other people which is why I avoid my totally free school gym like the plague. So it's really good for still being able to get training type instruction at home, and it makes it that much more likely that I'll get my exercises in. I mean, I really bought it for the yoga and running, but some of the other stuff is pretty neat as well.

With that said, I was very blah about Wii fit when I first heard about it because it seemed a little expensive for what it was, but then I saw a demo of it online and I wanted one right away. I think it's a really fun alternative to going to the gym and you do get a good workout out of it even if I'd prefer it to be a more fitness focused. Plus, I'm really hoping they come out with Wii Yoga or something smilar! :)
If you do decide to get Wii Fit/the Wii (at least within the next couple days), I would definitely call ahead to see if it's in stock because apparently it's selling like crazy and people are putting Wii fit up online for twice the price. Apparently Nintendo has stocking issues so even the console is still hard to find sometimes.
