vid | Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs [fraserrayk]

Look ma, it's a VID!

And my first one at that so we'll how it goes. I will tell you this: this thing is addictive. Like, more than you'll realize until you're getting up at three in the morning to see how your rendering is going.

Also, probably the result of watching too much due South and my all-consuming love for Ray K. Oh Ray K.

Hoorah! I've been indulging in dS vids recently. Last night I watched Laura Shapiro's Wonder of Birds for the first time, and i couldn't decide whether I wanted to cry or jump up and down while watching. I settled for playing it on repeat all night long while reading fic. :)

I'll have to wait till after work to watch yours, but I'm sure I'll have the same reaction!

Thank you!
[identity profile] bathsweaver.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 02:45 pm (UTC)

...well, dangit. I don't suppose--do you know any way to find out which codecs we're missing to play a vid?

[personal profile] sage on 2006-01-19 04:15 pm (UTC)

Since it's a .divx file, it's probably the divx codec -- but the GSpot Codec Information Appliance will tell you what you have and what you need.

Meanwhile, the K-Lite Codec Pack has everything you could possibly need, ranging from Basic on up.
[identity profile] bathsweaver.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 07:30 pm (UTC)

Rah! Thank you!
[identity profile] riverlight.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 06:13 pm (UTC)

Are you using VLC? Quicktime often gives me the missing codec message even for vids that VLC plays perfectly...
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 05:04 pm (UTC)

Ok, yes, sorry about that. I'm afraid divx is the only compression program I have, and otherwise the whole thing comes out to be something like 700 mb and nobody wants that.

Aside from everything that [livejournal.com profile] sageness says below, you could try straight for the divx codec from the divx site (http://www.divx.com/divx/) and/or try VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) which has always played everything wonderfully for me.
[identity profile] bathsweaver.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 07:33 pm (UTC)

Oh, oh--no worries, it's just my computer. This is a good thing, actually, because how else would I know I need to update? Thanks for the advice and the links and--of course!--the vid!

Ooh, nice. :D
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 05:05 pm (UTC)

Thank you!
[identity profile] emhen.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 06:10 pm (UTC)

Ooh, pretty! I liked how you used that long MotB shot of Ray K listening to Fraser's story - it gave it so much meaning, whereas I found it a little odd in canon. And the intercut of the falling shots was great. Ooh, also, a question: what did you use to make this? Is it downloadable? I'm trying to make my first vid too. eep.
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 06:52 pm (UTC)

Thank you! I love that shot of Ray. It was certainly an interesting directorial decision to use in canon, but it's also a great relationship-establishing moment.

I used Adobe Premiere 6.5 and bought DivX for compression purposes. I'm sure there are other great programs out there.
[identity profile] emhen.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 06:56 pm (UTC)

Hee. I was afraid of that. Sigh, illegal program time. ^_^
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 07:06 pm (UTC)

Limewire/Bittorrent is your friend! :)

Also, I figure I'm a poor student which means my income is negative. I'm sure there are plenty of non-poor and/or non-students out there who can shell out hundreds of dollars for video editing programs. Plus, it's not like I'd buy it if I couldn't downloaded; I'd just not vid. So they're not really losing any money anyway.
[identity profile] riverlight.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 06:15 pm (UTC)

This was wonderful. Great song choice! I'm going to have to watch it a few more times before I can leave real feedback, but I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed it.
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 07:08 pm (UTC)

Thank you! I always wanted to do a vid to that song, and I just automatically thought of due South when I decided to give vidding a try.

(And yay for feedback!)

I like the clips you chose, particularly the sequence of jumping/falling shots at the beginning.
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 07:09 pm (UTC)

Thank you! That's actually my favourite bit too because it's from two of my favourites episodes and they really are just always falling about.
[identity profile] karabou.livejournal.com on 2006-01-19 10:00 pm (UTC)

Wow, I thought this was gorgeous... good choice with the song and the scenes, the whole thing is fantastic!
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-31 07:37 am (UTC)

Aww, thank you so much! Maps is always going to be the Rayk/Fraser song for me.

I'm here through random link clicking and other people's memories and I was wondering if you'd be willing to re-upload this?
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-01-31 07:36 am (UTC)

Thank you for your interest. I have reuploaded to SendSpace (link above or here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/76ggp7)). Hope you enjoy!

[personal profile] ghost_lingering on 2006-02-01 05:09 am (UTC)

I did enjoy! It's a very good first vid--there's some great cutting back and forth between scenes, and the song is just on the edge of frenzied, which seems to fit RayK perfectly. There were a couple of parts when the POV seemed to switch, accidentally, but I tend to overthink POV when I'm watching vids, so that could just be me. Just a quick technical note--there's some weird stuff going on with the scan lines; I don't know if it's just my computer being funky or something that you did/didn't do while...I don't know, ripping or rendering or *something*. I have no clue what's causing it (obviously!), but I thought I'd mention it, just in case it's something easily fixed. Oh, and! One last thing: I love how the end mirrors the beginning. Great stuff! Thanks so much for re-uploading.
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-02-02 12:50 pm (UTC)

Firstly, thank you very much! First-time ventures are always tenuous because you're never quite exactly what your doing or how things will turn out so yay, thanks!

Secondly, re: POV switches, that was actually a bit intentional because the overall lyrics are just ambiguous enough to never settle on a particular focused narrative voice and that refrain of "no one loves you like I love you" seems to fit both characters. I think they may have told you in vidding 101 not to ever do that, but you know, I've done it fics and I don't know, at the time, it seemed like an ok idea. In hindsight, I agree that that could be better managed or left or something, but oh, dear hindsight.

Thirdly, I apologise for the quality. I think it's because of the ripping because I tried about a million different rendering formats and it still did that. I didn't try re-ripping and redoing the project (because the thought itself gave me a headache), but that might've provided a solution I suppose. But yeah, I really wish I knew how to fix it, but I honestly have no idea so there you have it.
ghost_lingering: a pie is about to hit the ground (Default)
[personal profile] ghost_lingering on 2006-02-03 04:35 pm (UTC)

I don't think that it's a bad thing to have POV switches--quite the contrary. And while they probably would have been executed better a few vids down the road, they weren't bad. I just tend to overthink POV anyway--which is to say it's me, not you! *g*

Have you looked at any technical guides explaining ripping? I think you can find links to a few here. They might be able to explain what's up with the quality. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest heading over to [livejournal.com profile] vidding before your next vid--people there always seem really nice and eager to answer vidding questions.

Anyway, I hope you make more vids in the future, because this was a great first effort! I'd like to see what else you come up with.
[identity profile] dewey3067.livejournal.com on 2006-02-05 11:04 pm (UTC)

A bit belated, but I just wanted to say how much I love the vid. I downloaded it back when you announced on DSNoticeboard and I have to keep rewatching it every couple of days because the song and images just will *not* leave my brain.

Love the pacing, and the shots used, and the interweaving, and just, just... all of it.

Thanks for sharing this!
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2006-02-07 02:16 pm (UTC)

Oh wow, thank you! I am incredibly flattered!

The song always stuck in my head, and the refrain always just seemed so perfect to describe in a way.
[identity profile] sandrainthesun.livejournal.com on 2006-03-27 02:07 pm (UTC)

I've tried to download the video for some days now but when I get on the sendspace site it always tells me it's not possible in that moment.
Could you please upload it to yousendit? That usually works for me.

I really would like to see it and the all-consuming love for Ray K, because believe me i know how that feels *g*.
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2008-09-13 03:57 am (UTC)

Ok, a long long time ago, you asked for a reupload of my DS vid, and I don't know if you're even still interested at all but here it is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/e3botc

Sorry, just rechecked my comments on this page, and thank you so much for your interest even if my response is beyond late. :/

Also, OMG <333 YOUR ICON! :)
[identity profile] sandrainthesun.livejournal.com on 2008-09-13 08:55 am (UTC)

I'm still interested. Watched it and liked it. My Due South phase is kinda over (I still read the occasional story and watch a vid, but not to the extreme of earlier days) but the vid remined me why I loved and still love the show. Maybe I should rewatch.

Also, OMG <333 YOUR ICON! :)
Thanks! *g* There are some VL-things in my journal if you want to take a look.

And I think I should friend you. Your interests pretty much mirror mine. :D
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2008-09-13 03:02 pm (UTC)

Oh oh, Due South is one of the few slashy shows where when I watch it, I actually say "Ok, this is definitely when they realized they were hot for each other," and then I watched the rest of the episodes with that in mind. Plus, it was so weird and random, but you know, trying to be weird and random, that it was absolutely brilliant in my mind. &hearts

Also, my crush on RayK will never die. Never!

There are some VL-things in my journal if you want to take a look.
Oooh, I definitely will take a look. I think Christian/Oliver are like the main reason I'm still bumming around the internet instead of getting my resume done.

Your interests pretty much mirror mine. :D
Ok, I must admit my interests are kind of random and involves a lot of sighing over hot men who sigh (ok, maybe not sigh but you know, take glances at while brooding meaningfully over hot they're totally straight, no really) other hot men. But if that works for you, then welcome! &hearts

Also, I just looked at your journal and I know a lot of people are of the Kara/Lee persuasion, but I would like to point out the Lee is an annoying little pussy and Leoban is totally, totally hot. Kara/Leoban 4eva!
[identity profile] sandrainthesun.livejournal.com on 2008-09-14 07:06 pm (UTC)

Leoben (or better CKR) is the only reason I started with BSG. Perhaps I would have eventually came to it, but he was the reason I started watching.

Your VID was mentioned on the [livejournal.com profile] ds_ficfinders community, so let me be the first of many to ask for a re-upload :)

due South, the fandom that will never die...

Sorry, haven't checked my email in awhile, but I'm so glad to hear there's still interest in the DS fandom. I've reuploaded vid here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/e3botc

Hope it was worth the wait! :)

Thanks for putting this together. The symmetry is nice, and the music choice is fresh and appropriate. You also gave me new appreciation for CKR's slow breathing *pant*

Hi! I'm the one who was looking for your vid on [livejournal.com profile] ds_ficfinders; I've lost my copy, so... another drop in the "reupload plz?" bucket. Thanks!
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2008-09-13 03:55 am (UTC)

Wow, sorry I keep forgetting that these upload accounts, you know, *expire*. But yes, I was very happy to reuplaod it here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/e3botc

And thank you so much for your interest! Sometimes I completely forgot that I made this (OMG I am so *not* a vidder) so it's always nice to be reminded. :)

Oh, thank you! Sorry, sometimes I forget that I've made this vid, so it take me awhile to dig it up again, but here it is:

[identity profile] kijikun.livejournal.com on 2009-05-28 12:37 am (UTC)

Yay vid! No worries thank you for reuploading it!
[identity profile] kijikun.livejournal.com on 2009-05-28 03:07 am (UTC)

Hey is there any particular codec needed for quicktime? Because I'm not getting a picture at all.
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2009-05-29 11:23 pm (UTC)

Hmm...I think you need the DivX (http://divx.com) codec for this, but if that doesn't work, then VLC player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) should definitely play it since VLC basically plays anything.
[identity profile] kijikun.livejournal.com on 2009-05-29 11:24 pm (UTC)

Thanks ^_^
[identity profile] innocentsmith.livejournal.com on 2009-05-27 05:24 am (UTC)

I'd like to second the request for a reupload. I love this song, and on reflection it seems perfect for RayK. Please?
[identity profile] godofwine.livejournal.com on 2009-05-27 06:10 pm (UTC)

Of course! Here it is:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/a4oh2b

Yeah, RayK and Fraser both had that "getting each other" vibe that I love so much about them and this song. ♥
[identity profile] clabrieal.livejournal.com on 2009-08-31 04:20 am (UTC)

Any chance of getting another reupload? I'd love to see this vid!
[identity profile] whoisus.livejournal.com on 2010-03-10 12:41 pm (UTC)

I've found my way here through a fanvid reclist and was wondering if you could please reupload this vid?

Thank you!
